World Environment Day Celebrated with a Call to End Plastic Pollution
Bhavan's Varuna Vidyalaya, Thrikkakara, marked World Environment Day on June 5, 2025, with a vibrant and meaningful celebration that reflected the school's deep commitment to environmental awareness and sustainable living. The programme revolved around the pressing and globally significant theme, "Ending Plastic Pollution," with the primary objective of fostering a strong sense of ecological responsibility among the students.
The programme was graced by Smt. Chithira Kusuman distinguished environmentalist and dedicated social worker, who served as the Chief Guest. In her inspiring address, she urged the student community to cultivate personal green spaces and contribute actively to the preservation of natural resources and biodiversity. She emphasised the importance of spending time in nature and fostering a nurturing attitude toward the environment, encouraging students to develop a "green thumb" in recognition of nature's vital role in human life.
The formal function culminated with a sapling plantation drive led by the Chief Guest. The Principal and student representatives of nature club joined in the initiative, reaffirming their commitment to environmental conservation and pledging to protect the Earth for future generations.
Adding much more to the significance of the day, the school proudly launched the Flora QR Code Initiative at the Children's Park near NGO Quarters. This innovative project aims to blend technology with environmental education by tagging various plant species in the park with QR codes. When scanned, these codes provide detailed information about each plant, including its botanical name, native habitat, medicinal uses, and ecological importance. It marks a meaningful step toward integrating digital tools into sustainable environmental awareness programmes. Smt Sajeena Akbar, Shri Ibrahim Kutty (Ward Counsellors) of Ward No.35 & 36, Smt Remadevi K P, Principal, members of Seed Club and Nature Club were present on the occasion.
