BHAVAN'S VARUNA VIDYALAYA, THRIKKAKARA ANNUAL REPORT - 2023 - 2024

Dreams are the stars that guide us; their fulfillment illuminates our path.

The moment has come to reflect on the blessings we have received, express gratitude to our master creator and acknowledge the strength and skills that have elevated us to the esteemed position of being among the finest schools.

With profound pride, I present before this august gathering the Annual Report, a testament to the collective efforts, activities and achievements of Bhavan's Varuna Vidyalaya during the academic year 2023- 24.

Academic Excellence

Beyond mere numbers, the result analysis serves as a mirror reflecting the efficacy of our teaching methodologies and the resilience of our students.

In the SSE 2023, 77 out of 87 students secured distinction, 10 secured first class and 17 secured A1 in all subjects. The school topper was Krishnan Madhu Nair with 99%. To add to the glory, 2 students in Science, 4 students in Social Science, 5 students in Sanskrit and 15 students in Aritificial Intelligence scored a centum.

In the SSCE 2023, out of the 88 students who appeared for the examination, 78 secured distinction and 10 secured first class. 17 students secured A1 in all subjects. Gowrilakshmi R and Arya G emerged as the toppers in Science stream with 97% and Aditya Nair emerged as the topper in Commerce stream with 96.2%. Two students each in Chemistry and Computer Science scored a centum.

Shikshan Bharati, Mumbai, has rated our school as 7th among all Bhavan's Schools across India based on average marks scored in SSE 2023. In the SSCE 2023, our school is rated 6th in the Science Stream and 10th in the Commerce stream among all Bhavan's Schools across India.

Awards and Commendations

Awards and commendations are a means of honouring excellence, inspiring others and acknowledging the positive impact made in the context.

  • Sri Vishnu Das, the Taekwondo Trainer, received the following awards:
    • Gold Medal in the 7th South Asian Taekwondo ITF Championship and 18th South West India Taekwondo ITF Championship.
    • Gold Medal in Individual Sparring
    • Silver Medal in Individual Tuls (pattern) and Individual Pattern and Team Sparring in the 38th National Taekwondo (ITF) Championship.
  • The school received the meritorious P T Thomas Educational Excellence Award, instituted by Smt Uma Thomas, MLA, in recognition of its achievement of 100% pass in SSE and SSCE 2023. Smt Krishna V S, Dept of Sanskrit, received the Best Teacher Award from the District Collector Sri N S K Umesh in this function.
  • The school received the Mathrubhumi Seed Haritha Jyothi award from ISRO Chairman Sri S Somanath.
  • The school received the 'Eat Right School' Certificate from FSSAI and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
  • In the Inter-School Camp organised by Vidyodaya School, Smt Dhanya Nair won the Best Adventurer Award and Sri Arun B Nair won the Best Runner and Best Teacher's Team Award.

Achievements to cherish in 2023-'24

  • Ananthalakshmi and Abhineeth Krishna N J accomplished commendable feat in swimming by successfully crossing the Periyar River.
  • Devananda won the Merit Award in the BSS Chitrapoorna Examination.
  • The school toppers in SSE & SSCE 2023 received the Sahodaya Merit Award.
  • In Nadhanirchari conducted by Vidyodaya school, Thevakkal, our students won prizes in various competitions.
  • Sreehari and Sidhie Vinayak won the Best Team Award in the Vidyodaya Inter-School Camp.
  • Aardhra Nath P V received the 3rd prize in the painting competition held at Amritha Medical Edu Expo.
  • The first rank holders in the Sugama Hindi Examination, Meenakshi Rajesh, Balananda P S and Niranjana R Bimal were felicitated by Kerala Hindi Prachar Sabha.
  • Malavika S secured the 1st Prize in the reading Competition organised by Kerala Sahityamandalam.
  • In the VISTA, Ishitha Susan George and Rishan Nair secured the 1st prize for the event based on Mathematical skills.
  • Irfan Mohammad won the 1st prize in Stand-up comedy in 'Suvarna Chaitanya'.
  • In the various Model UN competitions, our students won prizes.
    • Vishal Shekar - the Best Delegate Award in Kochi Sahodaya G20 Model UN.
    • Midhun Raj - award for diplomatic commendation - Model UN, Bhavan's Vidya Mandir, Eroor.
    • Anushka Vinod - the Best Graphic Designer Award in the IIMUN Conference.
    • Our school is now affiliated to the India Model UN.
  • Nandini Sandeep, Gian Mathew Reejo and Abhinav G secured a distinction and Aadhitya Jaganath L won the 2nd rank in the All Kerala Bhavan's Scholarship Examination.
  • In the UDAAN Competition conducted by Bhavan's College of Arts and Commerce, our students won various prizes.
  • In Magnum Opus, our students won prizes in various events.
  • In the Independence Day Essay Writing competition organised by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mumbai, the entries of 13 students from Std V-X were chosen from 4 categories and these students received the book titled "The Crazy Wit of Nasruddin Hodja", published by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mumbai.
  • In the Sanskrit Fest organized by Chinmaya International Foundation, our students won
  • prizes in various competitions.
  • Bhadra Anoop won the 1st position in the Inter-School dance competition, organised by Vidya Jyothi School, Thrikkakara.
  • In Pratheeksha, our students won prizes in various events. Our School won the overall Third Position in the competition.
  • In Srushti 2023, our students won prizes in various events.
  • In the Sahodaya Cultural Fest, our students won prizes in various categories.
  • In the Vigyan Yatra, Virtual Science Exhibition, conducted by Bhavan's Mehta Vidyalaya, New Delhi & Bhavan's Research Centre, the team of Avani Krishna and Arya Unnikrishnan won the 1st prize.
  • In the Bhavan's Cultural Fest, our students won prizes in various categories. Shriya Sandeep is the recipient of Bhavans Jyothi in Category II.
  • In the All Kerala Children's Fest conducted by Cochin Shipyard Recreation Club, our students won prizes in various competitions.
  • In the Kochi Sahodaya Band Competition held at Sree Narayana Vidyapeetam Tripunithura, our school band won the 1st position.
  • In the CBSE State Kalotsav, M S Dhatri won the 3rd prize in Mono Act Category III.
  • In the Science Exhibition conducted by Chinmaya Vidyalaya our school won the 1st prize.
  • In the Rashtradeepika Painting Competition, Dwithika Vipin is the prize winner.
  • In 'Varnam', painting competition, Harikesh Vinayak R won the 1st prize and Shreyas Krishna V won the 3rd prize.
  • The team from school bagged the 2nd prize for Conversion for Conservation Competition.
  • In the Cartooning Competition organised by Bhavan's Vidya Mandir, Girinagar, our team bagged the 2nd prize.
  • Ishan Ashokan and Jala Rathan Siddharth won the 1st prize in the UDAAN TECH NEX.
  • Shriya Sandeep won the 1st prize in the Recitation conducted by Tapasya Samskarika Vedi.
  • In the Inter-School competitions organised by Ramakrishna Math, Vytilla, Kochi, our students won various prizes.
  • In Evolve India Robot Olympiad, EIRO 2024, our team emerged as winners in Category II and in Category III, we won the first runner-up position and both teams qualified for the national event.
  • Skandan K S and Nanda V H bagged the first runners up position in State level Wild Wisdom Global Challenge by WWF.
  • Aadhitya Jaganath L and Alphons Biju won the 4th position in the U Genius Quiz conducted by Union Bank of India among the 579 teams from all over Kerala.
  • In the philately quiz by Ernakulam postal department, Eshal Ferose and Nanditha M Unni won the 4th position.
  • Aarsha Amal and Arvin Raish V P received the certificate of Preliminary Level Winner in the 'Toffee Ride Go' Quiz Competition.
  • Karthik Sunil and Yadhukiran B won the 5th position in the Rajagiri National Business Quiz and were selected for the Grand Finale.

Sports and Games

  • Ashna M S received the Gold Medal in Ernakulam District Powerlifting Championship and 2nd Prize in the All Kerala Bench Press Competition.
  • Varun Shouri received the1st prize in the Yogasana Championship by District Sports Council and Yogasana Association.
  • Our students won the third position in the Inter-School Table Tennis Tournament conducted by Vidyodaya School.
  • The U-19 Girls team emerged as the 2nd Runners Up in the CBSE Cluster Volleyball tournament.
  • In the 18th Varuna Cup Inter-School Volleyball Tournament, the U-15 Girls' team of our school emerged as winners and our teams were the runners up in the Under 19 Girls & Boys category.
  • In chess, our students won the following prizes:
  • Aditya D Menon - 1st position in All Kerala Open Chess Fest. Alan P L - 3rd position in the Rtn V K Krishna Kumar Memorial All Kerala Inter- School Chess Tournament. In 'Nava Check Mate', our students won medal and a cash prize. Our school bagged the 3rd position and a cash prize.
  • In the various badminton competitions, our students won prizes.
  • Harshvardhan Brijesh - Winner's title in U13 Boys Doubles and Runner up position in U13 Boys Singles in the Kozhikode District Badminton Championship and qualified for the State Badminton Championship.

    Dharmik Sreekumar - Silver medal in the Kerala State Junior Badminton Championship 2023, won the Under 19 boys singles in the 18th Archbishop Joseph Memorial Attipetty Badminton Tournament

    Our students bagged the Under 19 Girls runner up position in Assisi Badminton Tournament.

    Dharmik Sreekumar attended a training in Shuttle Badminton at Indonesia. He was selected along with 3 others from the State.

  • In the 1st Kerala State Shitoryu Karate Championship, Aswath Sajith bagged prizes in various events.
  • Bhadra Anoop secured the 3rd prize in the State Level Wushu Fight competition.
  • Aswin Nair won a silver medal in the CBSE South Zone Boxing Championship held at Nagpur.
  • Our students won various prizes in Taekwondo.
  • 41 Students received gold, silver and bronze medals in various categories in the 18th Kerala State ITF Taekwondo Championship 2023.

    Tejaswini Mannoj received the bronze medal in Individual Pattern and Aarushi S Nair won the Gold medal in Sparring in the 38th Taekwondo ITF Championship

    Mahadev V H - 3rd position in the Individual pattern & Individual sparring in the ITF Taekwondo Championship.

  • In the CBSE cluster 11 athletic meet, Anjaly P Joshy won the 1st position in 100m race, R S Vighnesh won the 3rd position in Javelin throw and Gaurikrishna L won the 3rd position in Shot Put. Anjaly P Joshy and Gaurikrishna L participated in the National Athletic Meet held at Raipur. Our students also won prizes in various events in the Ernakulam District Athletics.
  • In the Kochi Sahodaya Annual Athletic meet 2023-2024, Anjaly P Joshy, Gaurikrishna L, R S Vighnesh and Neha Nissand won prizes in various events
  • In the All Kerala Central Schools Sports Meet, our students won prizes in various events.
  • In the Dr K M Munshi Memorial Inter-School Athletic Meet, our students won the following prizes:
  • Anjaly P Joshy- 1st position in Senior Girls 100m race, and 200m race. She also secured the title of Individual Champion in the Senior Girls category.

    Neha Nissand - 3rd position in the Kiddies Girls 50m race.

  • The Girls' Kabaddi team won the 3rd prize in the CBSE Cluster XI Kabaddi Tournament.
  • Mirabella Antony secured Gold Medal in Girls' Roller skating in the All Kerala Inter- Bhavan's Games and the 3rd prize in Nava Kerala Sadas Roller Skating competition.
  • In the Multi Sports Fest for teachers, Shri Vishnu Das won the 1st prize in100 m race and Smt Anjali A G & Ms Anagha Mani won the 3rd prize in Chain of games.

Staff Enrichment Programmes

  • Principal, Smt Remadevi K P attended the All India Bhavan's Principals' conference held at Chandigarh.
  • Principal and Vice Principal attended The All Kerala Bhavan's Principals' Meeting 2023 held at BVM, Elamakkara. She was the resource person for senior secondary Chemistry teachers' workshop conducted by CBSE, COE.
  • Principal Smt Remadevi K P attended a workshop on Cyber Security conducted by COE, Chennai.
  • Vice Principal Smt Bindu M R attended a two-day CBP on Induction Training Programme by COE, TVM and the CBSE PRP Training Programme on Active Learning.
  • Assistant Vice Principal, Smt Smitha Jayaraj attended a seminar on 'Educators for Excellence'.
  • Our teachers also attended Capacity Building Programmes and workshops conducted by CBSE, COE.
  • Our teachers attended various online and offline sessions conducted by experts on variety of topics like NEP, NCF, active learning, holistic progress card, SQAA, Art Integration, usage of "EY STEM APP", Augmented Reality, Competency Based Assessment, Financial Literacy etc.

    Teachers of Dept of Mathematics attended a 3-day AMTI Mathematics conference.

  • The staff of the school office attended a session by Shri Sudheer Menon.

Empowering the Young Minds

  • Students of Bio stream in Std XII were taken to a Medical Edu Expo held at Amritha Hospital, Kochi.
  • Students of Std XI and XII attended a course orientation session by Chinmaya Vishwa Vidyapeeth.
  • A career guidance session was given to the students of Std XII by a team led by Wing commander Paritosh Kumar Singh, Indian Air Force.
  • A Cyber Awareness session was given to the students of Std XII.
  • Students attended a session on Gender sensitivity conducted by students of NUALS.
  • Students of Std XII were taken on a visit to the NPOL.
  • A workshop on FILMIT was attended by the students.
  • Students of Std VII attended a session on Financial Literacy by the Hedge Group.
  • A session on 'Optics to School' was conducted for the Students of Std XII by the Dept of Photonics, CUSAT.
  • In connection with Swachhata Pakhwada 2023, an awareness session was organised by the officials from NPOL in the school.
  • Students from classes VI, VII and VIII were taken to the Millet Fest organised by Thrikkakara Muncipality.
  • 31 students from classes Std VII to XII visited Sessions Court, Kochi.
  • A few students attended a workshop on Kuruthola Kalari.
  • A session on Robotics and AI was organised for the students of Std VIII.

Events and Initiatives of Varuna

  • The Inter School Literary Fest, INSIGNIA 2K23 was organised by the students of Std XI.
  • No Bag Day, "Kalivanchi' was organized for Std I to XII.
  • Aryabhatta Ganit challenge exam was conducted for the students of classes VIII-X.
  • Shikshan Bharati Comprehensive Evaluation was held in the school.
  • The 18th Varuna Cup Inter-School Volleyball Tournament was held in the school and 30 teams from 14 schools participated in the event.
  • On the auspicious day of Vijayadashami, the Vidyarambham Ceremony was held in the school.
  • The team comprising 13 students and 3 teachers visited Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan's Public School, Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, as part of the Student -Teacher Cultural Exchange programme. Currently, the team from Hyderabad is reciprocating the visit to our school.
  • Our school joined hands with Arya Vaidyasala, Kottakkal to introduce Ayur Club 2023, 'Sanjeevani' in the school.
  • The school launched the IT Club, ZERO O' BYTES in collaboration with Rajagiri School of Engineering and Technology.
  • In connection with Sri Subramania Bharati's birth anniversary, Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav was celebrated in the morning assembly.
  • Our school hosted the Inter-School Mathematics Exhibition, 'Sine of Times 2K23'.
  • The new cricket pitch of our School was inaugurated by Shri Tinu Yohannan, Former Indian Cricketer and Director, High Performance Centre, Kerala Cricket Association.

Community Outreach Programmes

  • 'Edumission', a philanthropic venture of our school, was inaugurated by Director, Sri E Ramankutty.
  • As part of the project, 'Naam Onnu', a few students and teachers visited SDPY Vocational Higher Secondary School and Lower Primary School, Palluruthy and distributed packed backpacks with school supplies to 25 students.
  • Students distributed supplies to the less privileged residents in the coastal regions of Vypin and Chellanum.
  • New clothes were contributed on the festive occasion of Onam to the patients in the palliative care unit, General Hospital, Ernakulam. Our students presented various programmes for them.
  • A few students and teachers visited Govt L P School, Kakkanad, to donate the provisions and vegetables for Onasadhya.
  • Our school in collaboration with the NGO 'GOONJ,' contributed various items to individuals in need.
  • House and Club Activities

    In pursuit of holistic development and the nurturing of innate talents among our students, a diverse array of co-scholastic activities and inter-house competitions were organised as part of house activities during the academic year. Competitions such as Ramayana Parayanam, quizzes, paper presentations, theme-based painting, and literary competitions were conducted to provide students with a platform to showcase their talents and foster a spirit of healthy competition.

    Kindergarten

    On 7 June 2023, 'Balvatika', which had previously been functioning at Bhavan's Adarsha Vidyalaya, Kakkanad, was inaugurated in the campus of Bhavan's Varuna Vidyalaya.

    National Cadet Corps

    The 21 Kerala Battalion of the NCC continues to function in the school effectively. Cadets attend regular classes and parades after school. In the Republic Day Camp selection, Gauri C Menon of Std IX was selected as the Best Cadet. Niveditha U of Std IX secured the 2nd rank in the Best Cadet competition and received a scholarship. The Second Officer, Sreereaj Sreedharan, attended the first refresher's course at OTA, Nagpur.

    Parent Teacher Association

    Our PTA operates with a clear mission to enhance the learning environment for our students. This year too, the PTA has sponsored trophies and certificates for the Merit Day organised to felicitate the SSE & SSCE toppers and also organised a session on 'Challenging Parenting'. The PTA sponsored a part of the travel expenses of students who participated in the nationals held at Raipur. The PTA is also sponsoring the awards for the Annual Day and has scheduled a PTA Day on 4 February 2024.

    School Library

    Our school library is a storehouse of knowledge that fuels the intellectual growth of students and staff alike. We take great pride in maintaining a well-stocked library, meticulously curated to meet the diverse needs of our academic community. With a substantial collection of around 11500 books and a commitment to annual enrichment, our library remains a vital hub for intellectual exploration and academic development.

    Resource Room and Counselling

    The resource room of our school remains dedicated to providing invaluable assistance to students facing specific learning challenges. With a team of well-trained special educators collaborating seamlessly with regular teachers and parents, the resource room continues to play a crucial role in ensuring that every student receives the support they need to excel in their academic journey.

    Acknowledgements

    I express my sincere appreciation to our esteemed Chairman, CA Venugopal C Govind, Director, Sri E Ramankutty, members of Kendra committee and Education Officers whose continuous support has been pivotal in the successful culmination of this academic year.
