Magic of Onam unfolds at Bhavan's Varuna Vidyalaya Thrikkakara
Onam, the harvest festival of Kerala, was celebrated with great enthusiasm and cultural fervor at Bhavan's Varuna Vidyalaya Thrikkakara on 25th August 2023.The celebrations marked the coming together of students, teachers, and staff to celebrate the rich traditions and customs of this festival. The school campus was adorned with vibrant and intricately designed 'pookalam' (floral carpet) traditional motifs and a festive ambiance.
The chief guest of the day was Shri Sanal Potty, the renowned Journalist, prolific writer and anchor. Dr K A Thomas, PTA President, Smt Remadevi K P, Principal,Smt Bindu M R ,Vice Principal and Smt Smitha Jayaraj, Assistant Vice Principal adorned the stage along with the Chief Guest.
Kum Annmiya Varghese Kaitharan of Std Xwarmly Welcomed the gathering. The Chief Guest mermised his young audience with a string of Onam songs. Smt Bindu M R,Vice Principal delivered the Onam message.
The highlight of the celebration was the array of cultural programmes. Students and teachers came together to showcase their talents through various performances. The audience was treated to traditional performances like Kummattikali, Thumbithullal , Vanchippattu , Thiruvathirakali , Pulikali , songs and skits that portrayed the essence of Onam and Kerala's rich cultural heritage.
The flashmob performed by the students of std XII was indeed a visual treat for the whole school. The tug of war competition between Std XI and XII witnessed the true competitive spirit among the young participants. To make the festive occasion more saccharine, payasam was served to all the students of classes I - XII. An elaborate feast featuring an array of traditional Kerala dishes was organized. The teachers and staff enjoyed the sumptuous spread, fostering a sense of togetherness and community.,
The festivities extended beyond a single day, with students participating in the 'Naam Onnu' Project, spreading joy to patients at the General Hospital Ernakulam. The celebration promoted unity, culture, and a sense of togetherness within the school community. Additionally, Mathrubhumi Seed Club and the Social Service Club of the school organized Onam celebrations at Kakkanad Government LP School, provsions for Onam and Onakkodi were distributed to the inmates of Germia Betroni, Palliative Care Unit, Occhanthuruthu aligning with the spirit of the National Education Policy to provide students a holistic learning experience that blends nature, happiness, and education.
